Free Qt on Android Coffee and Code Sessions around Europe

In March and early April, Bogdan Vatra of Qt on Android fame will tour three major cities of Europe offering a 3 hour morning session where he will talk about Qt on Android.

The cities he will visit are Berlin, Germany, London, UK and Paris, France. There are only a limited amount of seats in each location, so register your interest now. The dates and venues will be fixed in early February and attendance will be ‘first come first served’, with those who have registered interest early taking priority.

In these presentations Bogdan will tell you (among a lot of other things):

  • how to set up the development environment
  • how to run and deploy your application
  • a lot of Android specific concerns like its security model, signing packages etc.
  • how to use JNI to access and use Android Java APIs from Qt and vice-versa.

The presentation will, however, not be limited to just a glorified how-to, but will also discuss internals of Qt on Android, among other things the layout of the file system and how Qt itself is deployed on Android.

Finally, you can be rather sure to hear a lot of insightful discussions on why things are the way they are in Qt on Android – directly from the source, namely the person who brought Qt onto Android.

Participation in the event is free, but requires that you sign up, and due to organizational constraints, the amount of seats are rather limited. Previous Qt knowledge is a strong benefit.

What can I expect?

Your outcome of this event depends on your background. If you are a developer you will be able to develop and deploy an Android app. If on the other hand you are a decision-maker, you will get a better understanding of the differences and complexities involved in targeting Android as well as why Android should be interesting to you and your business.

  1. Hello,
I just signed up for the Paris session, I was hoping such kind of event and opportunity since I’m interesting and developping software both with Qt and Android, although separately. Will we have opportunity to speak about porting existing Qt applications to Android, I say, C/C++ existing Qt apps, and not only existing or new “from scratch) Qt-Java apps ?
Your presentation session will be a great opportunity to help technicians & engineers to have a better view of Qt-Android interest and, may be, could help us to have new arguments to convince decision-makers to involve Qt-Android platforms targets.
    Regards.

    1. Hello Alain-Pierre,

      Thank you for your interest!
Regarding your question, Bogdan will talk about extending a C/C++ Qt application with Android’s API (in Java), which should be relevant for porting your existing Qt app to Android.

      Best regards,
      Benoit
